Everyone knows Bali has so many temples. Those temples are always full of worshippers especially during special ceremonies. After so many years being one of the biggest tourist destinations, Bali is still able to protect its vibes as an island with a unique and strong culture. Amongst those temples in Bali, there is a unique temple that is located in Cemagi village, Badung regency. By locals, the temple is well known as a place to worship Ida Bethari Danu (or the goddess of prosperity). Farmers and Balinese traditional watering organizations (Subak) surrounding this temple especially in Badung regency always pray in this temple, wish for a good harvest and keep the pest away from their crops.

Standing on the top of black lava on Mengening Beach, Pura Gede Luhur Batu Ngaus resembled the famous Pura Tanah Lot but this temple and its surrounding far less crowded. The first main Altar (pelinggih) was built in 1643 BC, at that time Pura Gede Luhur Batu Ngaus was also known as Pura Penataran Agung Hening, sama-nur (having the same purity and function). Gradually the location of the temple was called Samenur until now or also known as the Mengening area, while The Penataran Agung Hening Temple which is located on a pile of rocks is better known as Batu Ngaus Temple. There are some shrines around the Pura Gede Luhur Batu Ngaus starting from the Taman Beji Agung shrines which are usually used for a water purification (melukat) ceremony or wishing for a non - medical disease medication and so on. Some people also believe by praying in Pura Gede Luhur Batu Ngaus they will have descendants. In the temple area there is also a shrine to worship Ida Bathara Sri and Ida Manik Galih, both symbols of prosperity.

On the other side of this temple there is also a shrine of Pasar Agung where usually traders and sellers ask for a prosperous year for their business. One that is also important is Pelinggih Ida Bhatara Dalem Ped, Nusa Penida, a place where usually people wish to have a better inner power besides a shrine for Ida Ratu Pantai Selatan ( a goddess who is believed to be the queen of the South Ocean). Inside the temple there are also some hole that looks like well, during the high tide the water will get through the hole and produces a sound just like a water blow.Below the temple compound there is a quite big hole like a cave where usually people play gamelan during the ceremony in the temple. The cave can be used only when the water is a bit low, normally it will happen during a very spesial ceremony in the temple.

Apart from every purpose that the worshiper has toward the temple, the main thing is Pura Gede Luhur Batu Ngaus is one among thousands of temples in Bali that hold a very strong energy to protect Bali as well as the obedience of the Balinese people in maintaining customs and traditions.
